Thomas A. Amato

Chairman and CEO

Thomas A. Amato is is co-chief executive officer of Asahi Tec Corporation and chairman and chief executive officer of its subsidiary Metaldyne Corporation. In these roles, Mr. Amato provides strategic and operational leadership to the global automotive supply company with annual revenues of approximately $3 billion and more than 10,000 employees at 55 facilities in 15 countries around the world.

Previously, Mr. Amato served as executive vice president, corporate development officer and treasury of Metaldyne Corporation. In this role he led global mergers and acquisitions activities, cash management, information technologies, risk, and tax for Metaldyne. Additionally, Mr. Amato leads M & A activities for Asahi Tec, Metaldyne’s parent company.

Mr. Amato also served as executive vice president, commercial operations of Asahi Tec’s subsidiary Metaldyne Corporation and as vice president of corporate development. In those roles he was responsible for the company’s business development initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, divestitures and other business development activities. In this position, Mr. Amato played a key role in the recent acquisition of Metaldyne by Asahi Tec and in Metaldyne’s acquisition of the Chrysler Group’s New Castle, Ind., facility.

Before that, Mr. Amato served as vice president of corporate development for Metaldyne’s Diversified Industrial Group, where he was responsible for the group’s business development activities and property transactions. Prior to that, he worked on numerous domestic and international acquisition, divestiture and financial projects for the former MascoTech. Mr. Amato started his career with Imperial Chemical Industries, a multinational chemical and pharmaceutical company, where he was a group leader responsible for introducing new polyurethanes-based products into OEM automotive and non-automotive market segments.

Mr. Amato holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. He also serves on the advisory boards of Junior Achievement and Wayne State Engineering School.

Mr. Amato works out of Metaldyne’s corporate headquarters in Plymouth, Mich.
